ME/CFS/PVFS…
ME is an illness. ME stands for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis sometimes known as Myalgic Encephalopathy. It is also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS)

Symptoms of ME…

ME mainly affects the muscles and the head; symptoms include severe fatigue on exercise, muscle pain, spasms, headaches, dizziness, loss of concentration and short term memory that are not normal "tiredness." A sufferer feels completely drained of energy; unlike other illnesses exercise may make things worse. There are other symptoms experienced such as nausea, shivering, fever, aching joints and maybe constant unremitting pain. Digestive problems are also common… constipation, diarrhoea, gas bloating and bowel pain.

Depression and emotional problems are also considered by some authorities only as symptoms and not a cause. Some sufferers are emotionally volatile, unpredictable, and angry and it is said that the illness affects the nervous system.

No body has ever produced irrefutable evidence of what causes ME some research has revealed a number of abnormalities: viral infections, muscle structure and damage to nervous tissue.

ME is controversial…

There are such a variety of symptoms involved in ME that it a difficult illness to diagnose even by professionals
There are no clear tests; it is diagnosed by doctors using "clinical judgment"
There is very little orthodox medical treatment for ME.
There is an increasing body of evidence to show the benefits of complementary medicine, but not "scientifically" proven.
